To move around the map press the arrow keys on your keyboard. You can also click and drag with your mouse.
To zoom in and out, use your mousewheel or the zoom buttons zoom_in zoom_out (top-left).
There are two modes that you can use this map in: timeline mode timeline and map mode map. Click on either of these icons (top-left) to change between the two modes.
Map mode is the default. It lets you see the placement of and information about all of the regions, planets, space stations and other phenomena that were present at this time.
Timeline mode will let you play through the events of the Horus Heresy and see how each individual moved around the galaxy during this time.
In timeline mode a new interface will appear (bottom-left) that will help you to interact with the events.
Use the slider to move backwards and forwards in time, or click the play button play_arrow to play through the events sequentially.
Once the events are playing, you can use the pause button pause to stop the playback.
You can also navigate to the very first event skip_previous in the timeline, or the very last skip_next.
You can choose which individuals you would like to see using the radio buttons within the options section. You may only have one set of individuals active at any time.
Below the controls will be an information display that will tell you what events are occuring during the year currently displayed.
To view location information hover over a feature with your mouse to show its name and information about it.
If you hover over a region or a feature, this will also highlight the area that it covers.
For features there is a notes section within the information popup that tells you if the placement of the icon is from an official source or not. It also says how confident in its placement I am.
You can search for a particular location using the search icon search (top-left). Simply enter the first few letters of the destination you are searching for to produce a list of matching location. Select the appropriate location and it will be highlighted on the map with a red circle, that location will also be placed at the center of your viewing area. Please note that you may need to zoom in slightly to see the marker for that specific location.
As you zoom further out to reveal more of the map (in map mode only), some features will be grouped using a special icon with numbers on it .
Hovering over this group icon will show the area that it covers in blue.
The number within the white circle is how many items are contained within that area. The numbers in coloured circles are how many of that number are aligned with a specific faction:
Hover over the layers button layers (top-right) to choose which features you want to see. The options available in the layers button will change depending on whether you are in map mode or timeline mode.
Some locations are referred to within the Warhammer universe as being towards the galactic north - this compass will show this direction to you.
In the bottom-right of the screen you will see a set of coordinates - this is the location of your mouse pointer within the galaxy.
The minimap (bottom-right) will always show the entire galaxy. If you get lost, look at the orange rectangle on the minimap to see which part of the galaxy you are looking at.
You can minimise/maximise the minimap at any time by clicking on the down/up arrow icons expand_more expand_less.
