There’s a new version of the 40k map up. This version includes changes to the interface, and a few more locations. The total number of markers is now at over 6700.

I’d been working on these changes after my last update but stopped about 7 months ago. I’d just started a new job and I think I lost interest in the project, if I’m honest.
I can’t remember if I was planning on making any further changes, but from looking at the map as it is now I’m pretty happy with it.
I think this will be the final version. I may update incorrect locations, or add new timeline events, but I don’t think I’ll be changing the map itself or any of its features.
40k and 30k options

Now you can change between a set of 30k markers and 40k ones. Hover over the map mode icon to show the new options.
30k mode will show all map markers as they were during the Horus Heresy period.
40k mode will show the most recent edition locations.
Location interface changes
The previous menu which allowed you to turn on/off the location markers and area overlays has been split into two menus.

The mountain icon will let you adjust the area overlays like segmentum, system etc.
I’ve also added the various warp storms and the galaxy division from edition 9 to this menu. Obviously these will only show in 40k mode

The pin icon will let you adjust the markers that show planets, stations, moons etc.
Hover over these icons to reveal the menus and use the checkboxes to reveal/hide the different aspects.
Xenos incursions

I’ve added a new interface to show overlays of Xenos incursions. This will show for both 30k and 40k modes but there’ll be more options in 40k mode.
Hover over the bug icon to reveal your options, then tick one of the checkboxes to show a coloured overlay over areas of xenos infestation.
Timeline changes
When activated, the timeline mode will change you over to 30k mode by default.

I’ve simplified the interface, moving the options for which markers (primarchs, traitors or loyalists) to display to a new menu. Hover over the cog icon to adjust these settings.
You can now move forward and backwards by one year at a time, as well as moving to the first or last event.
In addition, events that span multiple years will show in the information panel for the entire time span that they cover.

Previous Incarnations
To see the progress I’ve made over the years and how the map has changed, please review the version 1, version 2, version 2.1, version 3, version 4, version 5, version 5.1, version 5.2 and version 6 directories.
This map is a true marvel. I have referred to it repeatedly for numerous… operations. You have created an intelligence asset to rival many of those of my own.
In the spirit of the free exchange of information across the galaxy, I offer a significant data point worth investigation, regarding the upstart T’au Empire. According to my dataslates, the positions of a number of T’au systems appear to be incorrectly positioned on your map. Those systems are Yo’vai, Kor’tal, and Fe’saan–collectively, these systems are known as the Nem’yar Atoll, which itself is part of the 5th Sphere Expansion. Whereas your map places the Nem’yar Atoll within the T’au Empire proper (and understandable mistake, given the map found in the 9ed T’au Codex), it should actually be placed in the Chalnath Expanse. Allow me to explain:
According to the 9th edition T’au codex, the T’au established the Startide Nexus, which is a wormhole that leads to another portion of the galaxy, specifically a region known to the Imperium as the Chalnath Expanse (p. 30). You already have the Chalnath Expanse on your map, which appears to be correctly placed on your map. This is because the 9ed T’au Codex references the Chalnath Expanse (p. 30-31) as well as the Deathwatch. The 9th edition Deathwatch Codex, in turn, mentions the Chalnath Expanse and the T’au conflict there, and it specifically references the fortress known as Mortguard. Mortguard appears in the 8ed Deathwatch Codex on page 23, and you have properly placed Mortguard on your map.
In sum, the Startide Nexus connects the T’au Empire proper to the Nem’yar Atoll, which is located in the Chalnath Expanse. You would do well to update your map… For the Emperor, of course. He no doubt approves of your incredible efforts on this front.
